Description

Description
I am delighted to offer for sale a beautifully painted Scottish Landscape Oil Painting depicting a fine view of Loch Fyne.
-
The painting has been professionally executed on artist board and dates from the late Victorian period and is still housed in the original plaster and gilt moulded swept frame which greatly enhances the overall appearance of the subject.
-
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Jamieson . F. E. fl 1910-1940
Painter in oil and watercolour of Highland and Coastal scenes who often signed his paintings with pseudonyms and so you may well find listings for his work bearing signatures under many other names such as Arnold Pienne, Graham Williams, Aubrey Ramus, J. H. Boel, F. Walters, Joel Owen, Henry Cooper, C. McKinley, H. James, Stanley Graham, Montgomery Ansell, H. B. Davis, Stanley Penn, A. de Perrin, C.Frater, W. Richards Marshall etc which was quite remarkable. such as 'Phil Hips', 'Graham Williams', 'W. Richards' and 'Arnold Pienne'.
-
His oils were most commonly Loch or Highland landscapes.
He traveled widely throughout the country between the wars selling his paintings, but does not appear to have exhibited.
His work was often in a more traditional Victorian style and his pictures were reproduced as postcards by Ajelli and Co of London around 1920.

ABOUT LOCH FYNE
Loch Fyne (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Fìne, pronounced [l???x 'fi?n?] meaning "Loch of the Vine/Wine"), is a sea loch off the Firth of Clyde and forms part of the coast of the Cowal peninsula.
-
Located on the west coast of Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It extends 65 kilometres (40 mi) inland from the Sound of Bute, making it the longest of the sea lochs. It is connected to the Sound of Jura by the Crinan Canal.
Although there is no evidence that grapes have grown there, the title is probably honorific, indicating that the river, Abhainn Fìne, was a well-respected river.
-
In the north the terrain is mountainous, with the Arrochar Alps, Beinn Bhuidhe, Glen Shira, Glen Fyne, Glen Croe, Arrochar, Tyndrum and Loch Lomond nearby.
-
It is overlooked by the Tinkers' Heart, an old travelers' monument.
Loch Fyne is a popular area for sport diving and fishing.
-
It is also a popular tourist destination with attractions such as Inveraray Castle and the nearby ruins of Castle MacEwen and Old Castle Lachlan.
-
The village of Portavadie is on the east shore of the loch. A passenger ferry traverses the loch to Tarbert from the slipway at Portavadie.
-
During the Second World War, the Combined Operations Training Centre on the banks of the loch, was an important military facility.
-
CONDITION
Good overall order considering the age with the colours still bright and vibrant and the frame in lovely order too.
